The VAT rate has been increased indiscriminately, said Debapriya Bhattacharya, Distinguished Fellow of the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and Convener of the Citizens’ Platform for SDG Implementation. He said that while direct attention needs to be paid to increasing revenue collection, the interim government is paying indirect attention as before. This is worrying.Debapriya Bhattacharya made these remarks at a symposium titled ‘White Paper and Beyond: Economic Management, Reforms and National Budget’ at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka on Saturday. He is the head of the White Paper Committee on the State of Bangladesh’s Economy.
